Greening the City conceptualized, conducted, and analyzed innovative quantitative (n = 902) and qualitative (n = 55) doctoral research on urban nature, the built environment, and health. This research was the first to examine office worker perceptions of and attitudes towards real-world green roofs in two cities- Toronto and Chicago – providing a baseline for future research on the social and psychological impacts of green roofs. Key activities included:
- Extensive comparative policy review of urban environmental and health initiatives and their relative levels of success in each city
- Multi-stakeholder liaison and partnerships including municipal planners, building managers, office workers and research institutions to gain high level of interest and participation in green roof policy, research, and current environmental issues
- Successful grant writer, securing over $80,000 in prestigious national and international funding, including the US-Canada Fulbright Award
