Brightfarms, a hydroponic greenhouse company, just announced that it plans to build the world’s largest rooftop farm in Brooklyn. The 100,000 sq ft farm will grow enough food to feed 5,000 locals and create 25 new full-time jobs. The initiative is part of Bloomberg’s waterfront revitalization initiatives that aim to revitalize Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront. The rooftop farm will be able to grow up to 1 million pounds of produce a year, and prevent 1.8 million gallons of stormwater from overwhelming local waterways.
